Local recreational and commercial fisherman want to see the seals that call the Puntledge River home culled. A major decline in Fish Stocks shows that the seals are at least partially to blame as an estimated 30 habituated seals live and feed in the Puntledge River.
These seals feed on both returning adult salmon as well as the juvenile salmon on their way out to the ocean. These seals could consume more than 3 million young salmon, and as much as 35% of the returning stocks.
Ottawa has not yet approved a seal cull, but the Puntledge River Hatchery is hoping this will change soon.

There are to many seals today and First Nation people should be allowed to harvest them for food and pelts if they so desire.
