Responses to Survey Comments
You may have noticed recently that we have added a survey to the site. This survey has been put in place to help us find areas in need of improvement for this web site.
As there is no way to contact survey participants directly to address their concerns, comments, or questions, we have decided to post our responses to this page. Keep checking back often as this page will grow as we receive user feedback.
"The Map Provided was highly inaccurate"
Currently we are using the free Google Maps service to offer visitors an easy use, map of the Comox Valley. This map is in fact accurate, however, there are some labels on the map which are incorrect. We have tried contacting Google to get them corrected, but have not received any response. On the map, areas such as "Coon Town", "Bayton", and "Wheel Estates" are noted. To the best of my recollection, these ares do not actually exist. Google Maps also lists "Cape Lazo" as being located along Marsden Rd in West Courtenay, when in fact it should be to the East at CFB Comox. While some of these labels are incorrect, the streets etc, all appear to be accurate.
"Couldn't Print the Area Maps"
We do not have a function for easy printing of these maps, as this feature was not readily available by Google maps at the time of publishing. We will look into this to see if there is a plug-in for Google Maps that will allow us to add such a function. Keep checking back.
"There weren't any reviews for restaurants that I was interested in"
Unfortunately, if our site users have not yet added reviews for a particular restaurant, then there simply are none available. To help the next visitor looking for a review, we suggest coming back to the site and posting your own review after you have tried out a particular establishment. We have added some of our own reviews in the past and will slowly over time continue to do so, but the more visitors that give their feedback, the more reviews we can offer.
"Was looking for a link to search for a home without the hassle of a realtor. A link to homes for sale by owner or MLS listings would have been great. "
We are looking into ways to expand our Real Estate section to offer more value to visitors. For now however, feel free to visit the sites noted on our Real Estate page, or visit MLS.ca to search for local listings.
"Could not find what I was looking for"
A few users simply left us this comment. While we certainly appreciate you letting us know, next time please consider noting what it was you were looking for so that we may add it to the site in the future.
"No links to hotels"
We do have considerable contact information for local hotels and accommodations; however, we do not have the links to the actual hotel web sites. This is because advanced listings including links etc, are a paid service that some have not subscribed to. We have been considering expanding our free listings to include a link to the applicable web site., however, this would result in a large increase in SPAM submissions to our form. By charging for these links it drastically reduces the amount of SPAM submissions we need to weed through. In the future this may change, however, for now, we only offer free links to non-profit, and / or, non business web sites. Links at this time must be paid for any commercial website.
"...Looking for directions to the waste management facility and did not get much information or links without searching..."
We have added ample information about waste management in the Valley, however, we did not have directions posted. Areas services can be found by visiting our "services" page, or you can jump directly to the waste management page. We have also since added directions.
Our listed services will also continue to grow along with the site.
