Starting tomorrow, June 27th 2015, you will no longer be permitted to light that campfire on the majority of Vancouver Island.
We are only a few days into Summer, but a warm dry spring and an expected hot dry summer are putting our forests at a greater risk than in previous years.
Only the very north end of Vancouver Island still has fires permitted. Click on the map to enlarge and see what areas are impacted by this fire ban.
Penalties for anyone found in contravention range from a $345 fine all the way up to a possible $100,000 find and/or one year in jail. For anyone found responsible for causing or contributing to a wildfire possible penalties include being responsible for all firefighting and associated costs.
