Surgenor Brewing
Reminiscent of years gone by, the building which houses Surgenor Brewing Company stands stoic as a testament to the benchmarks and quality of days gone by. Built with Vancouver Island old-growth Fir and clad in beautiful red metal siding, a marriage of modern technology and old world construction merge to forge the backbone of Surgenor Brewing. That same tradition and dedication to higher standards finds its way into each pint of Surgenor’s signature ale and lager.
Located in the heart of the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, Canada, Surgenor Brewing Company was established for the single purpose of producing the finest, premium beer. The brewery uses the latest in stainless-steel brewing equipment from Newlands Systems Inc; manufacturers of the finest Brewing Systems and Equipment. The entire brewing process takes full advantage of modern technology, while under the constant supervision of our skilled brewing staff. The Brewing Company team consists of young professionals aimed at success and professing a “return of the craftsman” philosophy of beer production and everyday business.
Surgenor Brewing Company proudly offers to discerning beer drinkers: the signature Red House Ale and the Steam Donkey Lager. Each craft beer is carefully brewed in accordance with the company’s own high manufacturing standards. Carefully selected malt barley, glacier fresh water, hops from around the world, and specially formulated yeast merge in the brew house to produce the finest quality beer.

Steam Donkey Lager
Historically, the ‘steam donkey’ was a steam powered winch invented
in 1881. It was used mostly in logging operations until internal-combustion was invented.
The steam donkey acquired its name from the animals they replaced.
The rugged terrain of the West Coast made the steam donkey the work horse of the logging industry. Steam Donkey Lager is what we call our working beer, with a dash of West Coast history.
The Steam Donkey Lager is richly coloured with a full malty flavour and
orangey sweetness that lends well to the smooth mouthfeel. The aromatic notes spiciness are the perfect end to a swig of our working beer, a truly refreshing experience. |

Red House Ale
Emigrating from Northern Ireland to the Comox Valley in 1897 in search of a better life, my great-grandfather Robert Surgenor passed down a saying “Do everything as if it were the last thing you do, and you will be remembered well.”
It is with that same hard work and perseverance that I present to you our finest crafted Ale made with natural ingredients, our signature Red House Ale.
Red House Ale is an intense amber colour, with a full flavour body. Overtaken by a citrusy hop character and a fine floral aroma, this Ale is pleasant and thirst quenching - yet deceptively complex. |
