Where to picnic may depend largely on your circumstances. If you need something with easy access you may want to consider stopping by the Courtenay Airpark or Lewis Park along the River. For those with kids, any one of the many playgrounds would serve you well, or of course you may want to consider Comox Lake, or one of the fabulous ocean beaches like Kye Bay or perhaps Goose Spit. While it may be a bit of a drive north, Miracle Beach has long been a favorite Picnic Spot.

Stotan Falls, Comox Valley

If your kids are a bit older, Stotan Falls (at least when the water levels are low enough) is a fantastic place to kick off your shoes and enjoy a bite and a brisk dip in the water.

For the more adventurous, why not consider packing a lunch and heading out on a hike up in Paradise Meadows – There are plenty of spots along the trails to stop for a scenic bite to eat.

The Comox Valley is home to almost countless picnic venues. Where are your favorite spots? Be sure to drop a comment on this post and let us know where you like to head out on those warm sunny afternoons!

The board is looking for local entertainers interested in busking on the Meadowland Stage or throughout the grounds. Singers, dancers, comedians and acrobats etc. are invited to send a demo tape to the exhibition office.

• OBE helps the community create a biodiversity mosaic, celebrating Canadian wildlife and nature.
• The famous OBE binoculars will be back. Kids can come by and make a pair to spot Eagles and other amazing creatures at Simms Park.
• Bruce Carron of WildSpirit will have his hands-on nature museum on hand for kids to check out and discover cool bits of nature like bones, feathers and more
• The Comox Valley Montessori Society will be helping kids create terrariums out of recyclable materials
• The Comox Valley Multicultural Society is back for a fun-filled day of collaborative games including sack races, three-legged races and more

• Becky Powsey and her team from Creative Explorations will be helping kids build wind chimes out of recyclables

• Jamie Black from Horne Lake Caves will host an Amazing Race (every hour) that leads kids through the forest to discover the outdoors, get some exercise and have a great time.

• The crew from the Courtenay Museum is out with a fossil-making project and more. The museum Elasmosaur may even show up to check things out.

• Rebecca Watkin and the team from Saltwater School will be celebrating Spring with song and ritual as well as a puppet show. Shows are every half hour.
  THROUGHOUT THE DAY
• Maureen Wagner from StrongStart will be storytelling.
• Louisa McClellan of Usborne Books has an Earth-friendly recycle project on deck.
• Sharon Daly of Eco-Life Solutions will be on site to talk with families about simple, easy, inexpensive ways to go green at home.

Registration is until noon and the official kite fly runs from 12:30 to 3:30. There are a number or prizes in categories such as: Peoples Choice, Hard Luck Flyer, Stunt Kites, Largest Home Made Kite, Family Entry, Oldest Pilot, and Smallest Kite.

Be sure to head on down for the fun!

At the Simms Millennium Park, free concerts will be held every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. until Sunday, September 7 with the exception of July 13 (Musicfest) and August 3 ( Filberg Festival). A variety of performers and music styles to suit all tastes will featured. Bring your chairs or a blanket and settle down on the grass. There is plenty of room for everyone!
